Enfield Council win prestigous award – with a little help from their Friends
On November 14th, two Friends’ Trustees, Toni Guiver and Helen Osman, were delighted to witness Enfield Council and Thames 21 receive a prestigious global environmental award.
At the awards event, held at the Royal Geographical Society, we watched Ian Russell, who heads up the Council’s Water Course team, and Sam Bentley-Toon from Thames 21 pick up the ‘Local Nature Recoverers’ award for their joint work over the past ten years in restoring neglected waterways, creating new wetlands and woods; reducing flood risk and pollution.
In their acceptance speech Ian and Sam stressed that:
“local volunteers are at the heart of the action.”
“The scheme brings residents better health and access to nature”
